Fay is jarig! After nobody decided to show up for my birthday invitation, I was glad I arranged this picnic, lol Embarrassing? Meh
Look at all these food. Plus the buffet the night before I was a stuffed piggy.
This year’s birthday had a german theme, for some reason. We went to Oberhausen for its famous shopping mall. After trapped in this tiny and flat country I got the feeling of the saying: Big is beautiful. Besides the size, which is still nothing compared to some shopping malls in China, they really have some good stuff there. Good quality cream eyeshadow for 2.50 euro. Golden. Food was good too, large assortment and tasty. Oh me and my german sausages. I love german sausages, seriously. The meat product.
Fay’s bakery had a new comer: applesauce scones. We took these to portugal and they got me through the few days quite well.
And the black forrest cake from Mom in law. Can you believe I finished the whole thing within one day? What? Tis my birthday, is it not?
Lovely Holland in its spring.
I have to say when the weather is nice here, it’s really a lovely country, with big areas of water and green, cheerful people and laidback attitude. The problem is the weather is almost never nice.
Which is why the weather can be your excuse of not going to work or school, or generally depressed all the time. It’s true. For me. In winters I find it really hard to get up and do stuff, and always sleepy. Maybe I’m really not cut off for this country but hey.
Take a look at these pictures, they were taken when the weather held up well, and I LOVE the countryside, quiet and peaceful, fresh air.
We were also lucky that we could take the boat out, and ‘sailed’ in the famous canals of Amsterdam’s. I fell in love again with Amsterdam after watching its life from the water. From the water, away from all the people, it looked rather poetic.
My roasted honey mustard chicken thigh. It was good but I’ve been trying to figure out how to get the flavour into the meat, deep inside… served with brown rice. .
My awesome slippers! The print is so cool, and I got them rather accidently.
My foreigner twist of the famous broodje haring! The little raw fish is one of my favourite Dutch cuision.
Chicken chipotle…pretty much fried chicken breast with a nice buttery pan sauce. I like making pan sauce and all kinds of sauces lately. Specially with some wine or liquer in it. Yesterday night I made caramel whisky muffins and coffee whisky panna cotta, like the little burning flavour in your throat.
Nice oatmeal crisps. Yes I think they are too crispy to be called cookies.
The foam of fat from my mushroom salmon white sauce, lol.
This is the caramel whisky muffin I mentioned. The texture is really really funnny, it’s really crispy on the top and kinda chewy on the bottom. Anyways I liked it, and it tastes a bit like fortune cookies.
The following are pictures I took during Easter brunch with the in law’s. It’s the easter brunch from American Hotel Amsterdam, jazz hall seafood buffet. Ingredients are fresh and delicate, I really enjoyed it. Had some quality time with the in law’s,haha me like.
When I was taking these pictures my favorite dessert of the day hasn’t come up yet, its a really refreshing passion fruit sorbet cake. oh btw LOVE the chocolate fondue!!!!!!Specially the white one, yea I like my white choco alryt. 😛
Special recommendation! Small world catering, you got it Sandy! The bread was really good. I had grilled chicken with grilled veggie, Roy had turkey with grilled pepper. Both were so flavourful!
Salad meant for 2 pp. All for me, tossed with kidney beans, and nut mix. With my newest creammy dressing! Milk+mustard+pepper+salt+apple cider vinegar
Spice cake, veryvery good, finished it all of course. Based on this recipe we made a chocolate spice cake, tastes just like speculaas, shared on the bbq, think comments were good 🙂
Still in the fever of Small world, lately I’ve been searching good bakeries in Amsterdam. This Eeuwbol is from Hartog’s Volkoren. It does live up to it fame and tradition. I forgot where I saved the picture of the entire bread, but this is an sandwich we made from that. Mayo+cheese+grilled chicken+cucumber+mustard, needless to say, tastes awesome. BTW the chicken was in a random yoghurt marinade. Surprisingly good! Just need a bit mre moisture I guess.
The volkoren we made, risen over night
My favourite from Holland, country side!!!
This is mine, good bread+ mustard+spinach+chicken+ jam, lol, jam works the magic
Lovely weekend goes so fast. luckily this week’s weather is so lovely too! After this Easter. After Easter, Queen’s day. After that PORTUGAL!!!
It’s a typical sucky Dutch weather today here. Whenever the weather is bad I just couldn’t get up, always feeling exhausted and my productivity drops like hell…What is it, is it my female hormone working? Seriously I HATE the weather here! Last time we went out a drunk guy started talking to me : Do you like Amsterdam? Me: yea? Him: Do you like the weather? I felt like punching in his face.
Statistics tutorial sucked. Got my login code for the course, done some exercise, I’m hungry now. Dun feel like doing anything…I need some SLEEP!!! And I wana go to the gym. After that eat a lot of of good food.
Tonight it’s dutch lesson time again.. hope my portfolio went well then I’ll sent it out. my dutch still sucks, I’d like to have more time to study. But this term, 3 courses plus the potential resits from the last term…And looking for internships…That’s a lot of emails to send.
Wish me luck!
